About the BMR Calculator

This calculator uses the Mifflin-St Jeor equation, the most widely adopted formula for estimating Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) — the number of calories your body burns at complete rest just to stay alive. All math runs in your browser; nothing leaves your device.

Formulas (Mifflin-St Jeor)

  • Male: BMR = 10 × weight + 6.25 × height − 5 × age + 5
  • Female: BMR = 10 × weight + 6.25 × height − 5 × age − 161

Inputs: weight in kilograms, height in centimetres, age in years.

How to use

  1. Select your gender.
  2. Enter your weight in kilograms, height in centimetres, and age in years.
  3. Click Calculate. Your BMR appears below in kcal/day.

Frequently asked questions

What is BMR? BMR is the number of calories your body burns at complete rest over 24 hours to keep vital functions running (breathing, circulation, cell production). It does not include activity.

Why use Mifflin-St Jeor? It is the formula recommended by dietitians and major health organizations because it tends to be more accurate than older formulas like Harris-Benedict.

How does this differ from TDEE? TDEE (Total Daily Energy Expenditure) multiplies BMR by an activity factor. To compute TDEE, use the TDEE Calculator.

Does BMR include activity calories? No. BMR represents only resting energy. Multiply BMR by an activity factor (1.2–1.9) to estimate total daily needs.
